Dreams that bug me
I had a dream the other night about swatting flies. Can I tell you how annoying that was?

Today Ian got a delivery of about twelve sticks of his favorite deodorant in the mail. He ordered a ton because his deodorant, which he’s used practically since he started wearing deodorant, is being discontinued. Ian doesn’t wear cologne and the deodorant is his scent, so it’s a very big problem for him. What will he do when his deodorant runs out? It will be a huge change. Really, truly, a lot of our sense of self comes from what we smell like. It’s this part of our identity that we don’t think about all that often, but it can totally change our perceptions of self and of other people.
To delay the inevitable, Ian has tried all sorts of tactics. He wrote a letter to the president of the Speed Stick company, asking him to reinstate the deodorant. No luck. Ian did get a personal letter back and a ton of coupons for new deodorants. It’s still not the same. Ian has been prowling Ebay, looking for his deodorant in bulk. He has had limited success. Now Ian’s had to ration. He’s down from twelve clicks per arm to five. This is still an insane amount of deodorant coverage in my opinion, but it’s all for the greater good. What measures will Ian have to take next? I shudder to think of them…

I was in class the other day when my professor made an offhand remark about the Library of Congress. “Yeah,” she said, “They have a copy of every book printed in the United States. Though I usually don’t like libraries, I instantly fell in love. Imagine the access, the sheer amount of books. What if one of my books was in there one day? It seemed too good to be true.
It was. After a little research, it turns out that it’s not every book printed each year. It’s a research library, so you can’t check books out. Still, there are 10,000 items filed a day, with hundreds of miles of shelves. Pretty darn impressive. I wonder why I never heard about this before.
