Phone etiquette
This past weekend, I went to go see Slumdog Millionaire, which I thought was a fantastic movie. I wasn’t sure how busy the theater would be, so I got there about twenty minutes early. This meant a lot of time sitting and watching ads and behind the scene clips for upcoming movies. Normally this wouldn’t have been a problem, however a gentleman sitting one row behind me decided that he was going to use his cell phone for that entire time. He was trying to compete with the audio of a movie theater, so he kept shouting into his phone. I got to hear all about what he did that day, what he ate, and his plans for the rest of the weekend. Everyone around me was getting quite upset, shushing him, standing up and staring pointedly at him, ahem-ing him. At one point the guy said to the person on the other end of the phone, “Yeah, I’m at the movies right now.” And then he continued to talk for ten more minutes, while the lights darkened and the coming attractions aired. Best of all, when the screen asked for people to silence their cell phones, he laughed.
People. Please don’t do this. ‘Kay? Thanks.

This weekend Ian and I decided that we needed some more room to put things – namely books and papers. We decided on a sweet little bookshelf from Ikea and made the trek down to Carson to pick one up. Once we got home, we had a fun time putting it together.
Sadly, making this puppy meant that we had to get rid of our dining room table. We probably only ate at this table a total of four times in the three years we’ve owned it, but still. It was a piece of the domesticity I would love to pretend I have. Nonetheless, in the long run I love books more than food, so the choice was simple.
The best part of it was, Ian and I took the table out to the alley behind our house, which is home to dozens of trash cans. After we dropped off the table, I went inside to get two of the matching chairs. When I got back outside, literally two minutes later, the table was gone and no one was around. I left the two chairs, and went back for the next two. When I got back outside another two minutes later, the first two chairs were gone. In a total of four minutes, someone appropriated my dining room set. Four minutes!
Apparently my trash can is under surveillance. Makes me think twice about what I put out there…
